Journey through the afterlife: Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead
Last night was the opening reception for the BM’s new exhibition Journey through the afterlife: Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead
The exhibition was curated by John H. Taylor and was opened with speeches by the Director of the BM, Mr Neil MacGregor , Vice President Europe and Head of Country UK- BP, Mr Peter Mather and His Excellency Mr Hatem Aziz Seif El Nasr, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The reception was held in the Egyptian Sculpture Gallery, where guests mingled with BM staff amongst the great monuments of Ancient Egypt.
And then, in contrast to the spacious Sculpture Gallery, the dark winding corridors of the exhibition led the visitors across the boundary of life and afterlife of Ancient Egypt.
The exhibition explained how the book of the dead, as well as the various charms and rituals, was used by the soul to successfully reach the perfect afterlife.
It was a spectacular night for all of the guests, and for the BM staff it was a celebration of the hard work that they put in to the exhibition.
