Biography

Murtada is the Antiquities Director for the Northern State of Sudan and as such he is Site Manager for Jebel Barkal and the Napatan region. He also oversees the Gebel Barkal and Merowe Museums.

He is a member of the Berbar Merotic cemetery project (NCAM) and of the QMPS Qatari Mission for Pyramids of Sudan.

At the British Museum
During his time on the International Training Programme in 2008, Murtada was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and his partner placement was spent at The Collection: Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire.

Legacy Projects
In March 2010 Murtada attended the Cairo Conference Towards a global network where he presented a paper on the new management plan for the site of Jebal Barkal and Napatan region (WHP).

In May 2016 Murtada travelled to Cairo again for the Ministry of Antiquities Egypt/BM two-day conference Archaeology in Egypt and Sudan: Opportunities for Future Collaboration during which ideas were shared on how Egyptian and Sudanese archaeological institutions might work together in the future.
