Biography

Walaa is the Director of the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria. Before becoming Director in 2017, Walaa worked as a Curator and Scientific Research Fellow. In that  role Walaa works as the general manager for scientific archaeological research at the Graeco-Roman Museum. She  gives museum talks to V.I.Ps, prepare temporary exhibitions, make conditions reports on objects and help to care for the collection.

Previously she worked as a curator in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

In 2012, Walaa completed her PhD at Alexandria University. Her thesis explored architecture in Samothrace Island, looking at the creativity and innovation used throughout the Greek and Roman periods.

Walaa is also Chief of a number of committees charged with determining the authenticity of objects.

During her time on the International Training Programme in 2006, Walaa was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and her partner placement was at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, Newcastle.
