New ideas but practical concerns: Layla

There were three things learnt during my participation on the International curatorial Training Programme 2009, which I thought were particularly interesting.

  1. I was interested to learn to use MIMSY as used by Glasgow Museums for the documentation of objects and ancient buildings.
  2. I saw how useful the PDA device at Kenvingrove was for engaging students in the learning programme. The device has many functions and it gives you helpful clues and instructions to completele challenges.
  3. Most museums use freezing to kill insects in wood, natural objects, carpets and textiles, treating them at -30C.

I would be very interested in applying these techniques at Mosul Museum but all these depend on securing funding and the security situation in Iraq.
