ITP 2014 Second week’s topical discussion – “The Tomorrow people”.

During the discussion on 15th of August, the participants were presented with a list of points and issues arising from the first week topical discussion therefore this week session was a continuation for it, but in a different way.  The session has explored the changing role of museums and the skills that future museum professionals will need to deal with those changes. Many questions has been raised such as; how do you image the museum staff in 2024 will look like, how museums can start to develop those staff now, how do you think about the future of  the ITP (International training program) and how could it look like in 10 years from now.

The session was very interactive and had received considerable attention from the participants. First they were split into 4 groups of around 4-5 people from different countries and each group got  A0 sheets to bring their idea’s alive.

The discussion raised many idea’s, 10 years from now the staff need to be multi-skilled in different areas, there will be more interaction between specializations and technology is a must. On the other hand the ITP (International Training Program)  will be more refreshing, influencing, will become a great network of heritage professionals, more tech, and would be bigger. Some suggested that 10 years from now the ITP team will be on screens giving lectures and leading discussions between different museums and institutions all over the world.

Below you will find some of the participant’s snapshots of their Idea’s
