ITP Team News: Welcome to our new ITP Assistant!

Hello to everybody involved or interested in the International Training Programme. My name is Becca and I have just been appointed as the new ITP Assistant. This is such an exciting time for me and I cannot wait to become a part of this network.

I grew up in Warrington (in-between Manchester and Liverpool) and moved to London in 2011 to study Theology at King’s College London. This was an intense but incredibly varied course, where I learned about a wide range of religions, exploring their origins and development up until the present day. Museums and religions have always been interests of mine; volunteering in Museums in Warrington and Manchester before university and then at Shakespeare’s Globe, the Jewish Military Museum and Jewish Museum whilst at King’s.

Upon graduating I worked at Westminster Abbey, in the Abbey shop during their busy summer tourist season and then as an E-Commerce Assistant. Here I met so many people from all walks of life, and had an amazing time in such beautiful and historic surroundings.

My ultimate goal of becoming a part of the British Museum world happened in March 2015 when the Department of Coins and Medals hired me as their Administrator. In a department filled with the nicest people, I was introduced to a world of coin identifications, study room bookings, the Treasure process, The Royal Numismatic Society and a Money and Medals Network.

As well as learning how to use Merlin (the museum’s collection database), assisting with loaning our objects to other museums and fixing many printer problems, I have attended wonderful staff breakfasts, Christmas parties and have somehow become a British Museum Beekeeper!

I look forward to speaking and meeting with you all over the next year.
