Hanan Abd Alhamza

Biography

Hanan is the Manager of the Ancient Cuneiform Department at the Iraq Museum, where she is responsible for the care and documentation of the museum’s collection of cuneiform tablets. Hanan receives tablets and fragments from archaeological excavations and oversees the accurate recording of their size, material and provenance, and records this information to a national register. Hanan also collaborates with Iraqi universities to facilitate training opportunities for students.

Alongside her day-to-day work, Hanan is dedicated to publishing her research and attending international conferences to continue to learn and network with other industry professionals.

At the British Museum
During her time at the British Museum, Hanan was based in the Middle East Department and her UK partner placement was spent at North East Museums.

Hanan’s participation in the International Training Programme was generously supported by the British Institute for the Study of Iraq.
