Astgh Poghosyan

Biography

Astgh has been working in the museum sector for over ten years, gaining experience across various types of institutions. As an archaeologist, Astgh has consistently combined museum work with scientific research.

Astgh is particularly interested in the exploration, study and preservation of objects. Within her role in the scientific department, Astgh focuses on researching objects for future publications and presentation, whilst also ensuring their care and conservation.

As an archaeological metal storage keeper, Astgh is responsible for the documentation, preservation, and accurate representation of all metal objects housed in the museum’s storage. One of Astgh’s primary responsibilities is to monitor temperature and humidity levels, particularly for iron-based objects. Astgh conducts thorough assessments of items selected for upcoming exhibitions or catalogues, and when necessary, coordinates their transfer to restoration laboratories for conservation treatment.

In addition to these responsibilities, Astgh collaborates with scholars conducting research based on the museum’s collections.

At the British Museum

During her time on the International Training Programme, Astgh was based in the Middle East Department. Her UK Partner Placement was spent at Lincoln Museum and University of Nottingham Museum.
