With Donal McAnallen, Project Manager: Unlocking Our Sound Heritage, National Museums Northern Ireland

This presentation outlined the tasks, targets and feats of the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage team over the course of this three-year project (2018-21) at National Museums NI. It outlined the historical significance of the Sound Archive at the Ulster Folk Museum, and the urgency of transferring old and at-risk recordings from obsolete formats.

The scale and scope of the UOSH project was explored, and explanations were given of the processes and purposes of digitisation, cataloguing and rights-clearance (copyright, GDPR and other sensitivities).

Accounts were also provided of methods in which the newly digitised audio has been made available for public access and engagement, as well as various challenges that have confronted the project.
