Acropolis Restoration Service
The Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) is a special peripheral service of the Greek Ministry of Culture. Academic responsibility for carrying out the works of conservation and restoration on the Acropolis has since 1875 been held by the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments (ESMA), an interdisciplinary committee of specialist scholars. The YSMA includes technical offices and work sites for the conservation and restoration of the Parthenon, Propylaia, Temple of Athena Nike, and the circuit walls of the Acropolis, as well as the documentation of scattered architectural members. There is also a cast laboratory, photographic laboratory, and public relations and education office.
Working today in the YSMA are 155 employees of all specialities: architects, civil engineers, archaeologists, chemical engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, conservators and conservation technicians, marble technicians, work technicians and administrative employees.
