Biography

Walaa is the Director of the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria working on the scenario of the Graeco-Roman museum with the company that have rehabilitated and renewed the museum.

Before becoming Director in 2018, Walaa was a curator In Jewelry Museum In Alexandria from 2000- 2005.  When she came on the ITP in 2006 was a curator In Egyptian Museum In Cairo.

From 2011 – 2017, Walaa worked as a Curator and Scientific Research Fellow in the Graeco- Roman Museum In Alexandria. In that role Walaa worked as the general manager for scientific archaeological research at the Graeco-Roman Museum. She gave museum talks to V.I.Ps, prepared temporary exhibitions, make conditions reports on objects and helped to care for the collection.

In March 2021, Walaa was chosen to be member of the committee who write the official registers for the new museums in Sharm el sheikh, Kafr el sheikh Hurghada and the New Capitals of Egypt).

In 2012, Walaa completed her PhD at Alexandria University. Her thesis explored architecture in Samothrace Island, looking at the creativity and innovation used throughout the Greek and Roman periods.

Walaa is also Chief of a number of committees charged with determining the authenticity of objects.

As well as attending the ITP, Walaa has received a number of scholarships abroad on museum studies & managing working in museums including:-

2018: Accompanying Curator to the Exhibition of “ KING TUT – Treasure of the Golden Pharaoh Exhibition-“ In Los Anglos (California)
2012: Scholarship to Berlin for two months.
2009: Scholarship to several museums in Germany for 10 days.
2008: Scholarship (C.A.T.S) to Mariemont Museum in Belgium.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme in 2006, Walaa was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and her partner placement was at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, Newcastle.
