Biography

Candemir is a Provincial Director, at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Turkish Republic. During his first years in the Ministry he specialised in the illicit trafficking of cultural property. Currently, he is responsible for managing Antalya’s cultural institutions and overseeing tourism-related activities. In 2023, he inaugurated a new Tourism and Travel Library and a Baby and Children’s Library, further enhancing public access to culture and knowledge. He also supervised archaeological excavations in the ancient cities of Syedra, Perge, Side, and Phaselis, contributing to the preservation and promotion of Antalya’s rich cultural heritage.

In 2007, Candemir completed his PhD at the Ankara University. Candemir was project coordinator for the EU – Türkiye Intercultural Dialogue Programme entitled ‘Scientific Techniques and Risk Management in Museums’, from October 2011-2012. He is sub-coordinator for the projects AI-Enabled Skill-Building for Tourism and Hospitality: Bridging the Industry-Academia Divide (BIAD), 2025-2028, Development of Resilient Tourism Ecosystems Along Mediterranean Walking Routes (DETOUR), 2024-2027, Digital Solutions for Sustainable and Disaster Resilient Heritage Management (Digitalia), 2024-2026. In 2025, he served as the coordinator for Antalya’s D-8 Tourism Initiatives. Candemir has published several articles, the latest being “Yeni Bir Knidos Amphora Tipi: Küçük Knidos Amphoraları”(2020).

During his time on the International Training Programme in 2007, Candemir was based in the Department of Greece & Rome and his partner placement was spent at Lincoln Museum.

Legacy Projects
In March 2010 Candemir attended the Cairo Conference Towards a global network where he presented a paper on what he had gained, both professionally and personally, from attending the ITP and his career development since the programme.
