Nathalie El Alam

Biography

In 2021, Nathalie moved to Australia and is working with the Maronite Chancery collecting the data for the Maronite Archives in Australia. She is also managing the collection and planning for a new display for the Heritage Center. https://www.maronite-heritage.com/Australia.php

Since 2007 Nathalie has been working as an archaeologist on excavations in Beirut. In 2014 she finished her MA in Museum Communication at the Beirut National Museum at The Lebanese University and took on the role of Assistant Coordinator and Archaeologist with the Italian Cooperation in Lebanon. In this role Nathalie worked on the new permanent display at Beirut National Museum’s basement. In 2015 she worked on a restoration project and put on a display of the mummies of Assi el-Hadath at the Beirut National Museum. In 2016 she moved into her current department, the Museum Section of the Directorate General of Antiquities. In her current job Nathalie works mostly on exhibition projects, temporary loans and organizing events at the museum. She also follows the different researches and studies and the different activities that take place at the museum. Moreover, she is the Assistant Coordinator of the ongoing project of the Beirut History Museum.

In January 2017 Nathalie was selected to attend the training course preventing the illicit trade in cultural property that took place in Beirut and was organized by BILADI NGO and Dr. Neil Brodie. The course was held over 20 days in Beirut and was attended by 25 archaeologists and lawyers from Lebanon and Syria. It was funded by the Norwegian Embassy in Beirut.

In October 2017 Nathalie was selected to attend the museum workshop Reaching the Audience, Programs, Formats, Education that took place in Amman. The workshop was organized by The Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria in cooperation with the Academy for Museums Joanneum Graz. It was held over 4 days and was attended by 15 museum professionals from Lebanon, Algeria, Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Austria and was hosted by the Austrian Embassy in Amman.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme in 2012, Nathalie was based in the Middle East Department and her partner placement was spent at Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Museum.

In 2012 an element of the programme was a series of presentations, in which groups of participants presented a 10-minute illustrated talk, prompted by the task to consider a new display at the British Museum.  Nathalie’s exhibition project proposal was entitled Balance It Out.

Legacy Projects
In November 2015 Nathalie attended the ITP Mumbai Workshop Creating Museums of World Stories. The workshop was held at CSMVS and was attended by many ITP fellows from different years and countries, UK partners and British Museum Colleagues.

In October 2016 Nathalie was selected to attend the conference and workshop Learning, Engagement and Museums, hosted by Armenian ITP Fellows (Hayk Mkrtchyan, Davit Poghosyan and Marine Mkrtchyan), Ronan Brindley from Manchester Art Gallery and the ITP. The conference and workshop was held over four days in Yerevan Armenia and was attended by 19 Armenian museum educators from 18 institutions, UK partner museum educators from Glasgow Museums, Manchester Art Gallery and The Collection and ITP fellow museum educators from Egypt, India, Lebanon and Turkey. Nathalie presented a case study and took part in a working group.
