Biography

Shadia is a Senior Curator at the Sudan National Museum (SNM) in Khartoum, Sudan. Her projects involve the re-organisation of the collection in SNM storage and she is working on establishing a Nubian Museum in Wadi Halfa.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme in 2006, Shadia was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and her partner placement was at the Bowes Museum, County Durham and Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, Newcastle.

Legacy Projects
In 2016, she participated in the Cultural Heritage in Conflicts international workshop at the Uppsala University Department of Peace and Conflict, in cooperation with the Department of Historic Preservation.

Shadia was part of the project team for the ITP Collaborative Award Road to Reconciliation, working with ITP fellows from Egypt, Kenya and Uganda. The team aimed to create a community exhibition of South Sudanese refugee stories from camps in northern Uganda, which could tour school and camps in that region. The exhibition was envisioned to bring social healing using objects, arts and people.

Continued dialogue
Since attending the ITP Shadia has worked consistently with the British Museum on various projects.  She worked as a field Inspector, supporting a team of specialists at the British Museum’s excavation at Amara West in Northern Sudan from 2008 – 2016.
