Biography
Fatma is an Egyptologist, and First Curator at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, with over 22 years of curatorial and research experience. She specialises in ancient Egyptian religion, museum operations, and exhibition development.
Since December 2024, Fatma has been serving as the Head of the Administration of Technical and Technological Development at the Museums Sector, where she leads national efforts to integrate modern technologies into all aspects of museum work.
Throughout her career, Fatma has played a vital role in developing interpretive materials and enhancing visitor engagement at the Egyptian Museum. Fatma was responsible for the comprehensive project of updating and preparing the museum’s object labels – including the full development of interpretive texts for the Middle and New Kingdom galleries. Fatma also participated in the establishment of the Cairo International Airport Museum (Terminal 2), where she contributed to the display concept design, the selection of artifacts, and the creation of an engaging curatorial narrative tailored to the airport’s international audience.
In addition to her curatorial work, Fatma has curated numerous temporary exhibitions and delivered specialised lectures and workshops promoting digital transformation in museum practices.
As Head of the Administration of Technical and Technological Development, Fatma continues to lead initiatives that connect heritage preservation and modern innovation.
Fatma earned her PhD in Egyptology with First Class Honours Degree in 2024 from Ain Shams University – where she also obtained her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.
Fatma’s PhD research focused on ancient Egyptian religion and language. The title of her dissertation was “The Hours of Sunrise in the Book of Amduat through Papyrus Texts of the Twenty-First Dynasty”. In her thesis, Fatma published two complete papyri from the Twenty-First Dynasty, and is currently interested in publishing additional papyri from the same period.

During her time on the International Training Programme in 2007, Fatma was based in the Department of Egypt & Sudan and her partner placement was spent at Glasgow Museums.
Legacy Projects
In March 2010 Fatma attended the Cairo Conference Towards a global network where she presented a paper on what she had gained, both professionally and personally, from attending the ITP and her career development since the programme.
