Huyam Khalid Mohammed Madani

Biography

Huyam has a BA in History and MA in Archaeology, focusing on the post-Meroitic period. She is particularly interested in the transition from the post Meroitic period and the Christian period. and works as a curator for the Sudan National Museum. She passionate about implementing best museum practices in museum documentation. Her day-to-day work includes collection management, documentation, storage and exhibition display. Huyam also gives tours of the museum to visitors. She is currently in charge of the collections database which has given her the opportunity to find out more about the collection.

Huyam splits her time between the museum and conducting archaeological fieldwork with international institutions. She is currently working with a French team, excavating new kingdom and Napata Meroitic sites.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme, Huyam was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan, and spent her partner placement at Manchester Museum, Manchester Art Gallery and Whitworth Art Gallery..

In 2018 participants were asked to plan and propose a temporary exhibition, drawing on their existing museum experience and the skills learnt during the programme.  Huyam worked with Chantal Umuhoza (Rwanda) on her Object in focus project, Life after Death: A Chinese tomb figure.
