Biography

Rana’s main responsibilities as curator at Alexandria National Museum include organising temporary exhibitions, organising workshops for children and providing tours in English to international visitors. Rana is currently preparing for an exhibition about Ramadan through the ages from the pre-dynastic period to the Islamic period. To coincide with this exhibition Rana is preparing a children’s workshop based on the lanterns used during the holy month.

Rana specialises in Greek and Roman archaeology and classics, which she has a BA in from Alexandria University. She also has a diploma in Tourism and spent 3 months in Italy studying the language.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme, Rana was based in the Department of Egypt and Sudan and spent her partner placement at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology.

In 2018 participants were asked to plan and propose a temporary exhibition, drawing on their existing museum experience and the skills learnt during the programme.  Rana worked with Xu Liyi on her Object in focus project, Wayfinder: Journeys on the Ocean.

Rana’s place on the International Training Programme was generously supported by the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Charitable Trust.
