Victor Michael Obodom

National Commission for Museums and Monuments

Chief Curator

Country: Nigeria

Biography

When Victor joined the ITP in 2011 he was a Curator at National Museum Calabar. His responsibilities included exhibitions and documentation of museum objects. He was particularly interested in research into museology, conservation, storage and education services.

More recently Victor became chief curator and has organised two workshops for the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in Nigeria. The workshops were on documentation of museums objects for staff at National Museum Calabar’s partner museum, the Slave History Museum, Marina Resort, Calabar. Victor has also provided training on museum storage of textile materials which has led to the replanning of storage space at the Old Residency Museum, Calabar.

With this in mind currently Victor’s main professional interests are the decongestion of storage spaces, inventory of collection and training other staff in the Museum. Victor hopes to make the resources he received during the ITP summer programme accessible his colleagues across the museum sector in Nigeria.
