Biography

Haneen works as a podcast producer at Sowt Company, where she focuses on producing cultural and documentary podcasts for cultural institutions and museums in the Arab world. Haneen produced the podcast ‘Adventures at the Museum’ with the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Haneen previously worked as a media and marketing officer at the Palestinian Museum, where she developed a social media strategy and proposed enhancing an educational programme for teenagers. She was responsible for handling media plans and budgets and developed digital content and traditional media – developing new social media strategies and campaigns to strengthen the way her institution communicates.

An important step in Haneen’s career was when the first archiving project in the Museum was launched, with Haneen handling the coordination of researchers and working alongside communities. Following this with the management of communications for the inauguration of the Museum, including the exhibition Jerusalem Lives.

Her professional interests include the underground/alternative cinema scene in the Middle East and the combination of archival content and social media; exploring the relationship between social media as an accessible platform to communities and the archival content that was previously exclusive to museums. Haneen is also producing a series of podcasts as a personal project, highlighting stories from the archive at the Palestinian Museum.

Haneen’s dream for museums of the future is for museums to genuinely and sincerely portray the stories of marginalized communities, ensuring that the narrative truly belongs to those who have been victims of colonization and wars in the Global South. Additionally, accepting digital visits to new exhibitions would provide access for those who cannot always physically visit museums around the world.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme, Haneen was based in the Middle East Department and her partner placement was spent at Glasgow Museums.

In 2021 participants were asked to plan and propose a temporary exhibition on the theme of journeys, drawing on their existing museum experience and the skills learnt during the programme.  Haneen worked with Mario Tuki (Rapa Nui) and Osaru Obaseki (Nigeria) on her Object in focus project. Their exhibition proposal was titled Deciphering the Ba-Bird.

Haneen’s place on the ITP was generously supported by the Altajir Trust.
