Shengnan Ma

The Palace Museum

Associate Researcher

Country: China

ITP Year: 2012

Biography

Shengnan’s professional interests lie in Tibetan Buddhism and their relics. As Tibetan Buddhism played an influential role in Yuan Ming and Qing Dynasties in China (about 13th century to 20th century), it deeply impacted on Chinese religion, politics and diplomacy.

At the British Museum
During her time on the International Training Programme in 2012, Shengnan was based in the Asia Department and her partner placement was spent at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, Newcastle.

In 2012, an element of the programme was a series of presentations, in which groups of participants presented a 10-minute illustrated talk, prompted by the task to consider a new display at the British Museum.  Shengnan’s exhibition project proposal was entitled All about a deity.

Shengnan’s place on the International Training Programme was generously supported by the Aall Foundation.

Legacy Projects
In November 2015 Shengnan attended the ITP Mumbai Workshop Creating Museums of World Stories. The workshop was held at CSMVS and was attended by many ITP fellows from different years and countries, UK partners and British Museum Colleagues.
