Hello, I am Joyee Roy, Assistant Curator of Victoria Memorial, Kolkata, India for last 10 years and a past participant of ITP, in 2011. I received the prestigious Nehru Fellowship this year to pursue my research study on ‘British Artists, who worked in India and U.K. during 18th & 19th centuries- A comparative study of themes, styles, techniques etc.’

To carry out my study, I am visiting various museums and galleries to study British water colour paintings. I have so far visited the British Museum, Tate Britain, Victoria & Albert Museum, Courtauld Institute of Art, British Library and Ashmolean Museum at Oxford.  It is an enriching experience indeed. They were all very cooperative and helpful in showing me their reserve collection at their print and drawing rooms. I am also consulting reference books at British Library, Courtauld Institute of Art library and Victoria & Albert Museum’s Central Library.

I arrived on 15 July and was very excited to meet Claire and Shezza of the ITP team on 25 July for a delicious lunch. It was like meeting very close family members again, and we couldn’t believe it had been two years! We had a wonderful time chatting about our work, our memories from the ITP 2011, and the achievements of other past participants.

Claire and Shezza have generously invited me in the ITP 2013 reception to be held on the evening of 12 August. It will provide me with the opportunity to meet this year’s participants and I am looking forward to meeting them very much!
