Earlier this year, the ITP team announced plans to celebrate 20 years of the International Training Programme with an anniversary conference. Following a call out to the network to partner with us as a host, we are delighted to announce that the conference will be delivered in collaboration with the Centrul Cultural Palatul Principilor Transilvaniei in Alba Iulia, Romania.
Working in partnership with Ciprian-Mircea Dobra, Curator & Museum Educator at the Principia Museum, Romania (ITP 2019 & Senior Fellow 2023) the conference will take place in Alba Iulia, Romania from 2 – 5 February 2027.
The conference theme, Resilient Museums in a Fragile World, will focus on the challenges museums face in increasingly volatile times across the world, and the work being done in museums to provide support and solutions which address current challenges and plan for a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.
Applications are now OPEN for ITP fellows to either attend or speak at the conference.
For speakers proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- communities (diversification, new forms of engagement, social purpose, addressing issues around restitution, repatriation and decolonisation)
- the climate emergency (climate change, environmental impact, natural disasters)
- societal change (changing audiences, political interference, social fragmentation, inequality, and global uncertainty)
- technology (social media, modern means of communication, using digital to support the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage)
Fellows may submit individual papers of a 20-minute presentation followed by 10-minute Q&A. Or a panel proposal with 3 speakers from the ITP network each presenting for 15 minutes with a 10-minute Q&A.
Please read the call for papers and participation document in full before you apply, and contact the ITP team if you have any questions.
If you would like to submit a paper for consideration OR apply to take part in the conference, please email itp@britishmuseum.org and title your message ITP Anniversary Conference 2027_CALL FOR PAPERS or ITP Anniversary Conference 2027_APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 16 October 2026.
Applications are now open, and we encourage ITP fellows from every cohort to apply. As we celebrate 20 years of the ITP, we look forward to reconnecting with friends and colleagues, sharing ideas, and shaping the future of museums together.
