ITP 2013: Exhibition proposal project
Exhibition proposal project and reception
As part of the ITP, each participant is asked to plan and propose a temporary exhibition proposal for Room 3 at the British Museum. Participants were asked to draw on their existing museum knowledge, their own cultures, and the skills learnt during the ITP, to develop their proposal, and also to select an object from the BM’s collection around which to design their exhibition.
Participants were encouraged to think not just about objects, concepts and interpretation, but also audiences, marketing, merchandising and events. The result was a fascinating and inspiring range of ideas showcasing exhibition posters and merchandising, room plans, 3D models, object labels and designs for audio visual elements.
At the event, held on Monday 9 September at the BM, each participant had a table on which display their chosen object, and to present their exhibition proposal. Guests were able to circulate and speak to each participant about their proposal in an informal setting.
The event was very well attended with around eighty attendees, including BM staff, colleagues from our partner museums and funders and supporters of the ITP.
