Our week-long programme around the Museums Association Conference begins next week, and we can’t wait to get started!

A regular feature in the ITP calendar is out visit to the Museums Association Conference. This year’s conference is being held in Birmingham, and we are looking forward to welcoming the three ITP fellows who will be joining us for a week-long programme based around the MA Conference and visits to museums in and around the city.

Joining us this year are:

Hafnidar, Reviewer of Regional Policy, Aceh Department of Culture and Tourism (Indonesia, ITP 2017)
Namrata Sarmah, Assistant Curator, National Maritime Heritage Complex, Gujarat (India, ITP 2018)
Nelson Adebo Abiti, Principal Curator, Museum Service, Department of Museums, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities/Curator, Ethnography, Uganda National Museum (Uganda, ITP 2013)

The conference will take place on 2 – 4 November 2026 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Library of Birmingham. This year’s conference theme is Museums Connecting Communities and will celebrate how the sector is finding inventive ways to work with communities through challenging times to creative a positive future for all.

We are also delighted to share that the fellows will be presenting at this year’s conference. Their session From Global to Local: Museum Responses in Challenging Times, will look at how museums and communities can provide mutual support and benefit to address a crisis and plan for a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.

Alongside the conference we will have time to visit some of Birmingham’s many museums, including a day trip to the Black Country Living Museum.

We will be sharing updates from the programme on our Instagram page @britmusITP, follow along to see what we get up to!
