Community Partnership Event

Just a few weeks after returning home from the BM’s International Training Programme, Kiziili sent us the exciting news that, in partnership with the county governor’s office West Pokot County, he had been able to organize the first community partnership activities at Kapenguria Museum. On Friday 25th October 2013 Kiziili hosted an event entitled “Enhancing Tourism Development through Pokot Culture”.  The activities involved were:
– displays of artefacts
– displays of traditional food
– cultural songs
– games and story telling
– displays of traditional herbs

He invited eight performing groups including 10 elders of Pokot community and expected more than 300 people to attend. His aim was to target those people who find it difficult to visit Kapenguria Museum and look for both local and new audiences. To help make the day a success Kiziili was able to partner with the governor’s office who offered some much appreciated support. He also asked the local media to cover the day and help spread the word of the Museum and it’s work.

Kiziili Chole sends his special thanks to Havinder Bahra who gave a session on this very important topic – Community Partnership – during the ITP 2013 and we hope this will be the first of many events at the Kapenguria Museum.

I hope you’ll all join the ITP team in sending Kiziili their congratulations.
