Happy New Year from the ITP team!

Written by George Peckham, ITP Coordinator

We wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year and give you a brief up-date on our plans for 2024.

2023 has been fun and successful year; it has been great to meet with so many ITP fellows throughout the year for the Annual Programme, legacy projects, and informal catchups. To hear our reflections on the last 12 months, read our Season’s Greetings blog.

As always, we will be looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of ITP fellows to the global network for the next Annual Programme. The process for selecting participants for ITP 2024 is still ongoing, and we are working with our BM department representatives. Meanwhile, applications for the 2024 Senior Fellow have closed and we are excited to share who has been selected very soon.

We have a few more reports to share from 2023 in the coming weeks. I am currently finalising our report from the 2023 Museums Association Conference. We will also be sharing the reports written by the five fellows who joined us in Newcastle-Gateshead.

We intend to return to the MA Conference once again in 2024, which will be held in Leeds! More information about this will be shared when more details about the conference are announced. Stay tuned for calls for applications later this year!

In December we announced the call for submissions for the 11th ITP Newsletter. The theme for the 2024 newsletter is Museums of the Past through Technologies of the Future and asks us to think about what technologies museums can use to make our museums more attractive to the different audiences. The call for submissions is currently open until the end of February 2024 and can be viewed on the blog.

We have been working hard to improve our online offering over the coming year, which has included a big update to our website. In January you’ll see pages on the website be refreshed with new text, images, and resources. Some pages may move around, and some will be brand new! For example, we will have a new page all about the newly establish ITP Advisory Board, which will explain in more detail what the Board will be doing and how they represent the global network. We will share a separate blog which will go into the website changes in more detail.

As part of this website refresh, Amelia has been working on updating the fellows’ biographies. Thanks to everyone who has completed the updates form made by Amelia – your new biography will go live on the website very soon!

Continuing with digital engagement, we intend to restart our online subject specialist sessions in 2024! From 2020 – 2022 we ran a series of online workshops, lectures and discussions which proved very popular with the network. We’re excited to be bringing these back and I am currently working on a plan for a schedule of sessions for the year ahead.

We will be sharing a new call for applications for our ITP Conference and Research Grants. If you have a place at a conference or a research proposal that needs additional financial support, we might be able to help you. In 2024 we’ll be setting more funds aside to support our ITP network so keep checking the ITP blog for more information!

Over the next 12 months, we hope that the ITP continues to support and engage our network. If you have ideas or thoughts you would like to share with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time – we’d love to hear from you!
